LŌKAHI ART EXPLORERS — Regular Art Classes for Keiki in Hawai‘i Kai

Dive into creativity with Lōkahi Art Explorers! Our classes are guided by professional, trained artists and tailored to your child’s skill level. Rooted in Lōkahi—the harmony between people, nature, and spirit—students explore art through connection, curiosity, and imagination.

What Students Will Do

• Explore a variety of mediums: watercolor, acrylic, pastels, mixed media, and sculpture

• Develop their own artistic voice in a supportive, inspiring environment

• Learn real art techniques through fun, hands-on projects, such as:

  Motion-filled surfing sculptures inspired by Satoru Abe

  Energetic Polynesian dance silhouettes in the style of Keith Haring

  Playful shave ice comics inspired by Studio Ghibli

  Textured Van Gogh–style landscapes using modeling paste

  Dramatic banyan tree art inspired by Heather Brown...

Class Schedule Options (Choose ONE | Ages 9-12 | 1.5 hour per week, 9 classes)

• Monday: 3:30–5:00 PM | Jan 12 – Mar 9 (9 Weeks) OR

• Tuesday: 5:00–6:30 PM | Jan 13 – Mar 10 (9 Weeks)

  Note: 

  1) Classes require a minimum of 2 students to open.

  2) We will announce our Spring Break Art Camp and the Regular Art Classes that follow after Spring Break soon.

Meet the Teachers

JENNIFER MERU

Jennifer is a dreamer who loves bringing her island fantasies to life. After earning her BA in the arts, she explored many mediums and draws on her K–6 teaching experience to foster a love of art in students of all ages. Her professional work often uses acrylic on canvas to express the vibrant colors of island life, inspired by snorkeling, hiking, and the natural beauty of Hawai‘i. Jennifer finds joy in helping students express what can only be seen in the imagination.

KIM EDWARDS

Kim holds a degree in Illustration from Brigham Young University and creates art professionally with oil, acrylic, gouache, and charcoal. With 25 years of teaching experience in schools and her home studio, she believes every child is a natural artist. A mother of five, Kim is passionate about nurturing creativity and often incorporates her love of art history into her lessons to enrich students’ artistic experiences.
