Roland Colmus

ree

Roland Colmus has nurtured a lifelong passion for art, a calling that first took root in his early years and flourished during his studies at the Maryland College of Art and Design. His creative journey led him into teaching, where he shared his love of art with students from preschool through high school. While raising a family, he balanced life’s responsibilities with part-time artistic endeavors, often giving back to his community through murals, stage scenery, and commissioned works.

Over the years, Roland’s projects have spanned a wide range—from murals in schools and libraries to a hand-painted barn flag, stage set designs, and a collaborative mural at Sunrise Shack Sharks Cove alongside his daughter. Working in oils, watercolors, and most recently acrylics, he is especially drawn to pieces that carry spiritual or religious meaning.

Now based on Oʻahu, Roland finds daily inspiration in the islands’ natural beauty, from their rich marine life to their lush landscapes and cultural vibrancy. His artwork embodies a reverence for these surroundings, honoring both the intricate details of Hawai‘i’s environment and the spirit of its people. He feels deeply grateful to play even a small role in celebrating the beauty of the islands.

Whether reflecting on themes of faith or capturing intimate details of island life, Roland’s art is guided by gratitude, curiosity, and a sense of wonder—an invitation for others to see the world with fresh eyes.
